Mindful lemniscate drawing exercise

In this mindful lemniscate drawing exercise, we’ll discover the calming power of this symbol.

A lemniscate is also known as the infinity symbol or a horizontal figure eight. The flow of this symbol can be seen in different forms in nature and the human body.

Drawing this specific shape is very calm and harmonizing. The rhythmic flow of this symbol reminds us of balance, peace, simplicity, and harmony. It can connect your inner self with your outer self.

The outer self is the part we present to the world, while the inner self is the part that cannot be seen by others and has to do with feelings and emotions. So it’s essential to try to keep those two in balance.

This exercise can help with that. It will stimulate the integration between feeling and thinking. The rhythmic movement can connect the right and left sides of your body and mind and bring them in sync.

It’s an utterly calming and uplifting exercise.

As this exercise is all about the movement itself, it doesn’t matter how your lemniscates turn out. They don’t need to be perfect; you only need to have the movement down to be effective.

I hope you have some well-deserved creative me-time with this exercise!

Have fun with this mindful lemniscate drawing exercise! Please let me know if you’ve tried this one; I would love to see it.

Supplies for the mindful lemniscate drawing exercise

Supplies used:

Mixed media paper 300gr (Strathmore), colored pencils (Faber-Castell Polychromos), washi tape.

Alternative supply suggestions:

You can use whatever material you have for this exercise, such as markers, crayons, watercolors, etc. But, of course, a pencil is enough as well.

Instructions:

Step 1: Draw a lemniscate or infinity symbol
Step 1

Before you start, slowly breathe in and out a few times to clear your head.

Grab a pen or pencil and draw a lemniscate on your page. It looks like a horizontal figure eight. Repeat the motion several times, tracing over your previous one. This exercise is all about the harmonizing movement of drawing this shape. So don’t stress if both sides of your lemniscate are not equal. That is not a problem at all. Just focus on the motion.

Step 2: Add multiple colors
Step 2

We’ll add some extra colors to our lemniscate from step 1. So grab some colors that you like or calm you and trace over your shape with these colors. This will give it a little extra and allows you to draw even more lemniscates.

Step 3: Fill your page with lemniscates
Step 3

Finally, it’s time to fill our page with more colorful lemniscates. Go slow and enjoy the motion of your hand as it draws these beautiful calming shapes.

Now this mindful lemniscate drawing exercise is done! I hope you had fun.
