Mindful flowy lines exercise

In this mindful flowy lines exercise, we’ll create some soothing lines. Perfect for helping you relax or relieve some stress.

Creating something does not have to be difficult or mindblowing to have a calming effect. Even the simplest drawing can improve your mental well-being.

Our minds love curved and rounded shapes. As they do not have sharp angles or corners, which our brain perceives as dangerous. These curved shapes on the other hand make us feel safe and comfortable.

So in this exercise, we’ll create some lovely flowy lines to relax, relieve stress and have fun.

I hope you have some well-deserved creative me-time with this exercise!

Have fun with this mindful flowy lines exercise! Please let me know if you’ve tried this one, I would love to see it.

Supplies for the mindful flowy lines exercise

Supplies used:

Bristol paper 300gr (Hahnemuhle), alcohol makers (Ohuhu), fineliner 0.05 (Winsor & Newton), washi tape.

Alternative supply suggestions:

You can use whatever material you have for this exercise, such as colored pencils, crayons, watercolors, etc.

Instructions:

Step 1: Draw some flowy lines
Step 1

Before you start, slowly breathe in and out a few times to clear your head. If you like, you can add washi tape around the borders to create a frame around your drawing.

We’ll start by choosing some colors. Choose ones that calm you or make you feel good. Draw some flowy lines. Don’t think, just see where your hand takes you.

Step 2: Add some flowy lines in different shades around your first lines
Step 2

Now, take a few other shades of the colors you’ve used in step 1 and draw some lines around the first one. Follow the direction of the first line. I’ve added 2 extra lines to every line, but you can add as many lines as you’d like. You can even add different colors if that’s what you want. Have some fun with it.

Step 3: Fill the blank spaces with lines
Step 3

After you’ve added some lines, there are probably some blank spaces left on your page. Grab a fineliner or pencil and fill those spaces with flowy lines as well. Follow the direction of the lines around it. It will give your drawing some extra motion.

Slowly remove your washi tape (if you used any). Keep it parallel to your paper when you remove it.

Now this mindful flowy lines exercise is done! I hope you had fun.
