Discover the calming benefits of mindful drawing with sunray patterns. Perfect for busy moms seeking stress relief and creativity.
Ever feel like the chaos of daily life leaves you drained and stressed? I’ve been there too. Between juggling family, work, and personal responsibilities, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. That’s why I want to share a simple yet powerful creative exercise that can help you find a little calm and joy in your day: drawing sun rays with patterns
Why Pattern Drawing?
Pattern drawing, also known as doodling or zentangling, is a wonderful way to relax and center yourself. It’s an accessible form of art that doesn’t require any special skills or materials, just a pen and paper. The repetitive nature of drawing patterns can be incredibly soothing, helping to calm your mind and reduce stress. Plus, it’s a great way to tap into your creative side without any pressure.
Have fun with this sunray patterns exercise! Please let me know if you’ve tried it; I would love to see it.

Supplies used:
Bristol paper (BeCreativeShop), Alcohol markers (Ohuhu), fineliner 0.3, 1.0 (Ohuhu).
Alternative supply suggestions:
You can use any supplies you have: colored pencils, crayons, watercolors, etc.
Instructions for this sunray patterns exercise:
Step 1 – Draw the sun and its rays
Find a quiet corner where you won’t be disturbed for a while. Lay out your supplies and take a few deep breaths to center yourself.
Start by drawing a semi-circle in the top left or right corner of your paper. This will be your sun.
From the sun, draw straight lines extending outward to create sun rays. These lines will divide your page into different sections.
Step 2 – Add color
Add some color to your drawing using colored pencils or markers. This can enhance the visual appeal and make the exercise even more enjoyable.
Step 3 – Fill in the Rays with Patterns
Choose a pattern for each ray and start filling them in. You can use lines, dots, swirls, or any other simple patterns you like. It doesn’t have to be complicated.
Here are some ideas:
- Lines: Fill one ray with parallel lines or crisscrossing lines.
- Dots: Fill another ray with a series of dots or small circles.
- Swirls: Use swirling lines or spirals to fill another section.
- Leaves: Draw small leaves or petals to fill another ray.
Remember, the goal isn’t to create a perfect piece of art but to enjoy the process. Let go of any perfectionism and allow yourself to simply play with the patterns and shapes.
Give it a try and see how it makes you feel. And if you’d like to share your creations or have any questions, feel free to comment below. Let’s embrace creative self-care together and nurture our minds while bringing a little more joy and balance into our lives.
Happy drawing!
