Drawing Cute Monsters for a Mental Break

From wobbly lines to drawing cute monsters. Relieve stress with this fun, creative exercise. Perfect for busy moms needing a mental break.

Hey there, busy mom! We all know that life can be a bit wobbly at times—unpredictable, full of twists and turns, and not always perfectly lined up. But what if you could take those wobbles and turn them into something fun, even a little silly?

Today, I’m excited to share an exercise that does just that: drawing wobbly lines that transform into cute little monsters.

This isn’t about creating a masterpiece; it’s about letting go, embracing imperfection, and finding a little joy in the unexpected. It’s perfect for those moments when you need a quick mental reset, a bit of creativity, and maybe even a smile.

Step 5: Turn your shapes into monsters

Why This Exercise Is Good for Your Mental Health:

  • Embraces Imperfection: Life isn’t always neat and tidy, and neither is this drawing. By allowing yourself to create wobbly, imperfect shapes, you’re practicing self-compassion and letting go of the pressure to be perfect.
  • Reduces Stress: The process of drawing and adding patterns is repetitive and soothing, which can help lower stress levels and calm your mind. Plus, turning your wobbly lines into silly monsters adds a touch of humor that can lift your mood.
  • Encourages Playfulness: As adults, we sometimes forget how to play. This exercise brings back that sense of playfulness, reminding you that art doesn’t have to be serious—it can be silly and fun.
  • Boosts Creativity: Working within the frame and turning random shapes into something recognizable sparks creativity. It’s a great way to stretch your imagination and see where your mind takes you.
  • Provides a Mental Break: When you’re feeling overwhelmed, taking a few minutes to draw wobbly monsters can provide a much-needed mental break. It’s a simple, lighthearted way to recharge and reset.

Have fun drawing cute monsters for stress relief! Please let me know if you’ve tried it; I would love to see it.

Instructions for drawing cute monsters:

Step 1: Draw a wobbly rectangle

Step 1 – Draw your frame

Start by drawing a rectangle or square on your paper with rounded corners. Don’t worry about making it perfect—the wobblier, the better!

This is your monster playground, and it’s okay if the lines aren’t straight.

Step 2: create wobbly shapes

Step 2 – Draw wobbly shapes

Now, fill your frame with wobbly shapes that resemble worms or little snakes with extra legs or other body parts.

Each shape should fit next to another like a jigsaw puzzle, but leave a little room between them.

Think of it as a playful, imperfect puzzle where every piece has its own quirky personality.

Step 3: Add a pattern to your background

Step 3 – Add a background pattern

Once your frame is filled with wobbly shapes, it’s time to add some patterns. Choose one pattern for the background—I went with lines. This step is all about relaxing into the repetitive motions and letting the patterns emerge naturally.

Step 4: Add patterns to your shapes

Step 4: Add a pattern to your shapes

Also, add a different pattern to your shapes. Don’t make it too difficult. As you can see, I chose dots for my shapes.

Step 5: Turn your shapes into monsters

Step 5: Turn your shapes into monsters

Here’s where the magic happens! Add eyes to each of your wobbly shapes, turning them into cute little monsters. They don’t have to be perfectly placed or identical—let each monster have its own unique expression and personality.

If you’re feeling extra creative, go ahead and add some color to your monsters. Maybe some are shy and pastel, while others are bright and bold. Let your imagination guide you.

Final thoughts

Step back and take a look at your monster playground. It might not be “pretty” in the traditional sense, but it’s definitely fun, and that’s what this exercise is all about.

So, next time you feel like life is a bit too wobbly, grab a pen and paper and turn those wobbles into something that makes you smile. You might be surprised at how good it feels to let loose and have a little fun with your creativity.
