Soothing Circles: Bilateral Drawing for Moms

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the demands of motherhood and in need of a moment of peace? If so, I have a simple yet powerful exercise for you to try: bilateral drawing. This therapeutic technique combines the soothing motion of circular drawing with the balancing effects of engaging both sides of your brain.

Why Bilateral Drawing?

Bilateral drawing is a gentle way to quiet your mind and reconnect with your inner calm. By using both hands simultaneously to create circular motions, you engage both the logical and creative hemispheres of your brain. This promotes balance and integration, helping you find harmony amidst the chaos of daily life.

Instructions for bilateral drawing for moms:

Step 1 – Start drawing with both hands

All you need is a piece of paper and some crayons or colored pencils in your favorite colors. Choose hues that resonate with you and make you feel calm.

Find a quiet space where you can relax and focus without distractions. Take a few deep breaths to center yourself and let go of any tension.

With a crayon or pencil in each hand, begin making circular motions on your paper. Don’t worry about creating perfect circles; the beauty lies in the process, not the outcome. Let your hands move freely, following the rhythm of your breath.

Step 2 – Change colors

After a few minutes, switch to a different color and continue drawing. Notice how the colors blend and overlap, creating unique patterns and textures. Allow yourself to get lost in the flow of the movement.

Step 3 – Repeat as needed

Continue drawing and changing colors until you feel a sense of relaxation and inner peace. There’s no right or wrong way to do this exercise; simply trust your intuition and let your creativity guide you.
