This is a mindful pattern drawing exercise, which can help you relax and focus. The repetitive motion of drawing these shapes is really relaxing, almost meditative. It will get you in a place of focus and concentration and works as a great distraction from worrying thoughts in your head.
It takes a few hours to fill an entire page with this pattern. You can also work on it for 15 minutes or so every day until it is finished. That way you have a goal and that usually helps to keep you motivated. This is a great exercise to get started and add creativity to your selfcare routine.
Supplies used:
Archer & Olive dotted bullet journal (A5), Micron finelines (03 and 05), Sakura gelly roll (metallic gold), Uni-ball Signo white gelly roll pen.
Alternative supply suggestions:
It works best to have some dotted or graph paper. That makes it easier to make all the squares equal. If you do not have that, just use any scrap of paper that you have lying around, such as the margins of a newspaper, a magazine, the back of a grocery list. Then use a ruler to add horizontal and vertical lines.
Instead of a fineliner, a pencil or a regular pen is fine as well. If you want to add colors, just use what you have (crayons, water color, markers) or use a pencil to add various grey tones. If you do not have a white gelly roll pen, just leave some white space in the middle of the petal. The gold dot is totally optional and can be left out.
Instructions:
1. Draw some squares in a brick pattern.
2. Now draw 4 petals from the middle of the square to the corners.
3. Add color to a few of the petals. I decided to create a zigzag pattern and only added color to 2 of the petals. You can decide if you want to follow my approach or try something different. It’s your creation, do what feels good.
4. Add some details to the petals and add a (gold) dot in the center.
5. Repeat this to create a pattern. You can fill a whole page or only a small part. It’s up to you!
