Mindful neurographic watercolor exercise

In this mindful neurographic watercolor exercise, we’ll create just for ourselves. It’s about having fun and having some creative me-time.

At the beginning of the year, we did a Mindful neurographic drawing exercise. This is a variation on that exercise. We’ll now use watercolor to color our sections.

Of course, if you don’t have watercolor, you can use whatever you have.

This exercise is all about the creative process and focusing on what you’re doing. Let’s forget about everything going on in your life right now and just draw. Let your mind wander and your hand guide you. Allow yourself a moment just for you.

Have fun with this mindful neurographic watercolor exercise! Please let me know if you’ve tried this one, I would love to see it.

Supplies for the mindful neurographic watercolor exercise

Supplies used:

Watercolor paper 300gr (Winsor & Newton), watercolor (Kuretake Gansai Tambi), paintbrush (Da Vinci), washi tape, fineliners no. 1.0, 0.3, (Copic), white acrylic marker (Posca and Ohuhu), paper towel.

Alternative supply suggestions:

You can use your kids’ watercolor paints or you can use colored pencils, crayons, or markers as well.

If you only have regular paper, please be aware that your paper cannot hold that much water and will probably warp. Try taping it down to prevent it from warping too much.

Instructions:

Step 1

Before you start, breathe slowly in and out a few times to clear your head. Draw some freeform lines on your page. Try not to think and let your hand guide you. There is no right or wrong way to do this. Just have fun and relax. It’s always fun to see how it turns out.

Step 2

Now it’s time to “hide” all the sharp angles where your lines crossed. This will create more curved shapes and round objects making our minds feel more secure and calm. I added small circles everywhere my lines intersected.

Step 3

Your whole page is now divided into different sections. Choose colors that calm you or that you like and color all your sections with watercolor.

Step 4

This step is optional, but I like to add a white outline to each of my sections. I like the look it creates and makes me calmer. Listen to your own feelings and intuition to decide if you want to add this as well.

Step 5

If you like, you can add some patterns to your sections as well. I really wanted to add something with dots. I added white dots, black dots, and some really small circles.

Now this mindful neurographic watercolor exercise is done! Hope you had fun.
