Mindful color blending exercise

Step 6: Carefully remove washi tape

This is a mindful color blending exercise, using a wet-on-wet technique.
Choose colors that speak to you or reflect your mood. You can choose really contrasting colors or go for a more subtle blend and choose colors that are closer to each other. I thought it would be fun to add some metallics. So shiny!

This exercise is not about creating the perfect blend. It’s about being in the moment and mindful of what you’re doing. How does it feel to swirl your paint on your brush and slowly move it across the page? Notice how the two colors slowly blend together.

You don’t have to have a perfectly smooth transition between the colors. Play with it and see how it turns out. This is an exercise for you and it’s about the process of creating itself and enjoying it. Just having your own creative selfcare moment with this mindful color blending exercise.

Supplies used:

Sheet of black water color paper (Van Gogh), green (661), pink (366) and yellow (268) water color paint (Van Gogh), metallic water color paint (Finetec), brush no. 10 (Prima Marketing), washi tape, water.

Alternative supply suggestions:

If you don’t have any water color, you can use other paints as well. Even finger paint of your kids will do. If you have no paint at all, try it with colored pencils. It certainly possible to blend with them. The softer they are, the easier it is to blend. Washi tape is also optional. Just draw some rectangles and fill them up with paint.

Instructions:

1. Gather your supplies.
2. Divide your paper into a few sections using washi tape.
3. Start with one color on the left side and paint the first half of the first section.
4. Choose another color and paint the other side. Make sure the first color is still wet. Slowly mix the second color with the first when they meet in the middle.
5. Now repeat this with different colors for the other parts. Let the paint dry.
6. Carefully remove the washi tape.
