Discover stress relief through easy Christmas branch drawing. A perfect, mindful art exercise for busy moms to relax and enjoy the festive season.
The holiday season, while joyous, can often leave us moms feeling a bit overwhelmed. In those precious moments, we find for ourselves, engaging in a simple, relaxing art exercise can be incredibly rejuvenating. Let’s explore a festive and easy drawing exercise: creating Christmas tree branches.
This exercise is particularly beneficial for mental health due to its repetitive and rhythmic nature. The act of drawing needles on the branches can be meditative, helping to calm the mind and reduce stress. It allows for a moment of mindfulness, where your focus is solely on the drawing, providing a break from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Additionally, the satisfaction of creating something beautiful can boost mood and provide a sense of accomplishment.

Supplies used:
Black watercolor paper (Van Gogh), gelly roll pens (Sakura).
Alternative supply suggestions:
You can use any material for this exercise, such as colored pencils, crayons, or a pencil.
Instructions:
Step 1 – Drawing the branches
Before you start, slowly breathe in and out a few times to clear your head. Then, bring yourself to the present, away from all the day-to-day stress.
Start by drawing simple lines from the edges of your paper towards the center. These lines will form the branches.
Vary the lengths and angles of the lines to mimic the natural irregularity of tree branches.
Step 2 – Adding the needles
Take your green pen and begin to add needles along each branch.
Draw small lines angled away from the branch towards the tip. This creates a repetitive and soothing rhythm. Allow yourself to get lost in the motion, enjoying the simplicity of the task.
Continue adding needles until your page is filled with lush green branches, all pointing towards the center.
Don’t rush; enjoy the process.
Step 3 – Adding details
Once satisfied with your branches, you can add extra details.
I chose to add red dots to represent berries or small ornaments, but feel free to add whatever details you like.
In just a few minutes, this Christmas tree branch drawing exercise offers a peaceful retreat from the festive frenzy. It’s a perfect way for busy moms to engage in creative self-care without needing a lot of time or resources.
